+ I didn't get the chance to reply to comments the other day, but thank you to everyone who laid down some science in my last post.
+ My
rs_small_gifts and
camelotsolstice gifts have both been posted! I am not allowed to read them until I've finished my own submission for the former, but I can't wait to get to them. Thank you, kind gift-making people! ♥
+ I have to say, everyone's flaily posts about Yuletide are making me feel a little better about dropping out. *g* However, I offer much cheerleading - go fandom go!
+ I have successfully made it home despite the flurries of snow that have started appearing - this is England, after all, where transport is not designed to cope with anything that might be described as a weather condition. I can't quite believe I survived this semester, and I am very, very happy to be home.
+ There have been various recent instances of fail I do have things to say about, but I just don't have the energy. I will say, however, that I am completely horrified at the BBC. Just, oh my god, Not Okay. (And, to pre-empt, please note that I am in no mood to argue about whether there's a problem with legitimising the question of whether queer people ought to be allowed to live. Not to mention that as a response to the current situation in Uganda, it's massively offensive to the people currently facing death threats from their own government. Please don't bring that 'debate' to my journal.)
+ Anyway. I am doing my best to resolutely shake off the above - I have tea, a massive jumper, I am sitting on my parents' sofa and now I am going to write a little fic and finish my Christmas cards. Speaking of, thank you to
misswinterhill and
avendya, your cards were waiting for me when I got home today! ♥

LJ stats, LJ coupons, and OMGYULETIDEBEARS

1) I am having fun playing with LJ's new Statistics feature (Paid and Permanent accounts only). This is not My Guests -- it doesn't show any individual information about who visited your journal -- and you can use it even if you keep My Guests turned off.
The "LiveJournal users"/"Page of entry" numbers are probably the most accurate count of viewers of each entry -- that's the number of unique logged-in users who actually viewed the entry page itself on a given day. It'll show you a list of your most recent posts, but you can also paste in the URLs of earlier posts -- apparently stats go back to this summer, but not necessarily reliably since the feature was being turned on and off behind the scenes.
I'm amused to find that my guess that comment counts far undercount readers of stories seems to be correct -- I've only just started playing around with stats, but it looks to me like about ten times as many people read as comment. I am choosing to interpret this as "lots of people lurk" rather than "my reader satisfaction rate is 10%." ;-)
2) Does anybody who has a Free or Plus account want a $10 coupon off upgrading to a Paid account?
If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can now send 10 of your non-Paid friends a $10 coupon. Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25).
I don't want to randomly spam people who aren't interested, but if anybody wants one, comment and I'll send. ETA: I haveeight seven six four two left.
3) Yuletide story looking better. First draft completely scrapped, taking different tack. Want to get a draft done today if possible. *yulepanics*

Calling my geologically inclined friends: please excuse a little lazy-webbing and help me resolve a debate with my father. Is there a non-arbritrary way of distinguishing a planet's north from its south, one that doesn't simply rely on convention? And if not, does that make all sci-fi talk of an unhabitated planet's southern hemisphere etc completely nonsensical?
... These are the things that keep me up at night.

"Sleeping Arrangements," SG-1, Jack/Daniel (pre-slash) with references to Jack/Sam and Sam/Daniel, rated PG. ~1900 words. Set mainly late in season 4. (This is part of the backstory to Audacity, but it stands on its own.)
Summary: Jack's never liked those logic problems with the foxes and the geese and the boats.

+ I have comments and posts to reply to - soon, soon! For, joyous day, my academic work is wrapped up for the semester and now I am just tying up loose ends so I can go home for Christmas. \o/
+ This is a good thing, as I am hopelessly behind on fic writing (as
magnetic_pole,
mindabbles,
xtricks etc are well are of /o\). So much so, in fact, that I ended up dropping out of Yuletide just before the default-without-penalty deadline. I'M REALLY SAD ABOUT THIS. My request was completely awesome, but hopefully now my Yuletider has a better shot at getting a decent story that's had some time spent on it, and hopefully I will still be able to write her - and others - a Yuletide treat so I don't feel completely cut off from the festivities. But still. SAD.
+ I may have found my
festivids song, though, which is exciting. I am awaiting the source and shall get cracking imminently!
+ But, basically, don't let me sign up for anything ever again. *sigh* This semester completely kicked my ass - hell, this year has. Hello, 2010, you're looking new and shiny!
+ Finally, I am in love with
chaila43's new West Wing vid, Rise, it's gorgeous and stirring, just like the show at its best. ♥

Also, LJ comment notification is down, if you haven't noticed; I'm trying to keep up with comments through the Recent Comments page, but if I miss something, I'm not ignoring you, I promise.

camelotsolstice has started posting! Already I must rec the following:
ART: Knight (Gwen/Morgana, G)
a;lskdjas this is gorgeous and wonderful. It is full of brilliant details and I love the composition.
FIC: gang aft agley (Gwen, Morgana, Merlin, Arthur, PG)
Arthur and Merlin are Not Talking; Morgana stages an intervention with help from Gwen.
This is entirely charming, featuring truth-or-dare and confessions and dungeons. :D

mindabbles,
coffee_n_cocoa,

So law exams began today. Order is as follows:
1.CivPro
2. Torts [thursday]
3. Contracts [monday]
4. CrimLaw [wednesday]
I feel MUCH better having one under my belt. Granted, I'm sure I'm going to have a massive freakout on tuesday or wednesday about that exam. But... that's for another day.
Now I'm making myself a drink, relaxing for a bit... and then off to start the Torts Marathon.
Also? It's about 99% sure that I will be attending Gallifrey. What can I say? I've been bitten and bitten hard by the con bug. *sheepish* Anyone else going?
♥ I hope you guys are all doing well. I miss you and I miss being able to check up on things on LJ. I just... don't trust myself just yet to not get sucked into the land of LJ. ♥ Love you lots and thank you for all the good vibes lately. They help!

Thanks for all the virtual snowflakes! Whee! And thanks for the comments on the fanfic love meme -- they were a much appreciated boost.
I am poking at an SGA amnesia story that won't seem to come together, and hiding from my Yuletide story. And working. Yawn.
Also watching SG-1; I'm watching on Hulu as well as the couple of seasons I have on DVD, so I'm not watching in order, but probably watching "Meridian" and "Forever in a Day" back to back was ... unwise. *dies of angst and is dead*

189 stories now up at AO3 (AOOO? "Aooo" would be the sound of me contemplating how much more I still have to upload.) Granted, that's everything from 400-word ficlets to 60,000-word stories, but ... man, that's a lot to upload, and I am by no means done.
Am trying to work myself up to uploading my old Kirk/Spock stories, which are dripping with melodrama. I am afraid I will get melodrama all over my hands. OH THEIR SECRET PAIN. They're kind of fun stories, though, and there are actually people who want to read TOS fic right now, so I should just suck it up and do it.
I'm not uploading any of my Yuletide stories, because the whole Yuletide archive is moving to AO3. But that still leaves a whole lot of words to shovel.
SGA Santa story: finished, beta'd, submitted. Now I can move on to panicking about my Yuletide story. (Panic level: BEARS. I think I know what I'm writing, but I must now put words on paper.)
